Margaret Mannion Kallen
The Galway-born artist, Margaret Mannion Kallen, was educated at the National College of Art, Dublin, in the 1960s and gained her Diploma in Teaching in 1968 and spent most of her working life in that profession.
Since deciding to concentrate on her own work she had exhibited in such diverse places as the Guinness Hops Store and the National Print Museum, both in Dublin, and at Impressions, Galway; Footprint (Connecticut, USA), and is a regular contributor to the Royal Hibernian Academy and to the Royal Ulster Academy, where she won the Nicholson Bass Award for the Best Print. Margaret is a member of the Black Church Studio, Dublin.
Her limited edition prints are quirky renditions of everyday activities as carried out by ladies of a certain age. Often humorous, never cruel, they nevertheless shed a slightly mocking light on the social mores and concerns of a section of society.
